Dear 5th Avenue Business Owner,

My name is Brendan and I own The Commissioner at 247 5th Ave.  Last year, several business owners and I got together to create the 5th Ave Merchants Association with the goal of continuing the Open Streets program in Park Slope.  We believe this program enhances our community and brings in residents from other parts of the city to enjoy everything 5th Avenue has to offer.  In 2025, we hope to expand it based on feedback from merchants along the avenue.

In 2024, 5th Avenue was closed to vehicular traffic from President Street to 2nd Street every Saturday from May-July and September-October from 12pm-10pm. The 2025 proposal with the Department of Transportation would expand this corridor by 3 blocks, closing 5th Avenue from Berkeley to 4th Street, once again Saturdays May-October (excluding August). You can see a map below. This expansion was based on requests from various owners and discussions with the community.

We would like to get your feedback about Open Streets.  Whether those feelings are positive, negative or neutral.  Please respond ASAP so we can share everyone’s feedback with the Department of Transportation before the end of the month.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Brendan Byrnes
